NMA Laments Assault on Female Doctor in Abuja

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has condemned the recent assault on a female doctor by a patient’s family at Maitama District Hospital, Abuja, saying it was a dangerous trend.

In a statement jointly signed by the chairman, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) National Committee on Gender Violence, Dr Tijani Godwin, and secretary, Dr Nnanna Agwu on Monday in Lokoja, the association condemned in strong terms the assault on the doctor.

A female doctor at the Maitama District Hospital, Abuja, was allegedly assaulted recently and stripped naked by the relatives of a patient, following the death of their mother in the hospital.

The NMA said such assaults on doctors as well as threat to their lives of by relations of patients in the federal capital territory are becoming rampant, thereby calling on the federal and states governments, as well as various hospitals’ managements to beef up security in health facilities to end all forms of assault on health workers.
