Kano State government has effected the arrest of one Samira Abubakar for illegally operating as a medical doctor in the state.
The suspect who is an auxiliary nurse ran a private maternity home, Family Maternity and Clinic, situated along Yankaba area in Nassarawa Local Government of the state.
Her arrest was effected yesterday by the Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA) of the State Ministry of Health during the course of their routine inspection exercise.
Already the clinic has been shut down by the authorities while the police in the state have been invited to take over the case.
Briefing newsmen shortly after the arrest, the Executive Secretary, Private Health Institutions Management Agency, Dr Usman Tijjani Aliyu explained that her arrest was executed with the support of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Mohammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, Kano
Dr Usman explained that the so-called doctor was an auxiliary nurse but was performing beyond her licence as she was carrying out gynaecological procedures ranging from abortion to Cesarean Section (CS)
He also accused her of conducting these illegal procedures on patients at exorbitant prices.
He, in addition, charged her of employing secondary school students as nurses in the clinic, an exercise he stressed was against the ethics of the medical profession.
