Kwara Govt Strikes Again, Removes Saraki’s Name from State Varsity

Kwara State House of Assembly on Tuesday amended the Kwara State University Law, changing the institution’s name from Abubakar Olusola Saraki University to Kwara State University.

A statement from the state assembly was to the effect that, “The Kwara State University (Amendment)  Bill,  2020 which reverted the name of the University from Abubakar Sola Saraki University to Kwara State University has been passed and forwarded to the governor for approval.”

The Kwara State University (Amendment) Bill 2020 was one of the four amendment bills passed by the state assembly on Tuesday, and which the legislature claimed were aimed at deriving the best practices in the education sector and local government administration in the state.

Earlier on Monday, the state government was in court with the Saraki family over the revocation of the popular ‘Ile Arugbo’, a home for the elderly which the late Abubakar Olusola Saraki established many years back.

The Saraki’s have alleged that the state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, was being vindictive against them, and has been making all efforts to obliterate the legacies of their father.
