The brewing industrial rift between the management of Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST) Wudil and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been resolved through mediation, judicial sketch reports.
According to a press statement issued by the deputy registrar in charge of information and public relations unit of the university, Abdullahi Nayaya, Alternative Dispute Resolution, ADR methods were invoked to achieve amicable agreement that has been reached with the leadership of the union.
In the statement, a copy of which was made available to Judicial Sketch on Sunday, Nayaya said in the spirit of resolving the perceived industrial dispute, the management of the university paid members of the union their postgraduate grants 50 percent outstanding balance.
Further, he said the school authority has unbundled the unpaid excess work load allowances that were accumulated from 2014 to 2016.
Nayaya disclosed that KUST’s ASUU members have received their hazard allowances for the months of January/February 2020.
He commended ASUU for the level of maturity exhibited by its members while negotiations lasted, adding that the management of the university would continue to explore all available avenues to promote the growth of the institution.
