Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammad Adamu has paid indemnity to wives of police personnel who were slained in the line of duty while serving in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States, Judicial Sketch reports.
The beneficiaries were the wives of police personnel who, prior to their demise, were in active service in the states.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone One, Sadiq Bello, who supervised the disbursement of the compensation held at zone’s headquarters Thursday disclosed that 29 widows have been paid the sum N40, 628, 956, said the monies was to compensate the death of their husbands.
According to Sadiq, police authorities are working towards unbundling the outstanding indemnities of other officers who also died while in active service.
He further revealed that efforts are ongoing to also cater for and accommodate the welfare of police officers who recently retired from active service.
Sadiq averred that police authorities in Nigeria are restless over the welfare of its officers and men, reassuring that the authorities would continue to act in the best interest of its officers and men.
