The Faculty of Engineering and Medical Sciences, University of Benin (UNIBEN) on Tuesday said that it has produced a clinically tested ventilator which it presented to its health centre to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Edo State.
Public Relations Officer of UNIBEN, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, made this known in a press statement she circulated, a copy of which Judicial Sketch obtained.
She wrote in the statement that “A clinically tested ventilator, produced by a team of researchers in the Faculty of Engineering and Medical has been presented to the Management of the University led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Lillian Salami.”
Leader of the team, Professor Kensington Obahiagbon, explained that the group, known as the COVID-19 Initiative, considered the shortage of ventilators in Nigeria when developing the ventilator.
“Hence the ventilator was produced to work without electricity for at least one hour. It is designed to function in a dual mould for both adults and children,” Ehanire said.
