The Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, will on June 11th appear before the Kano Chief Judge to respond to a civil suit over the suspension of five Kano lawmakers.
The suspended lawmakers namely, Isiyaku Ali Danja, Salisu Ahmed Gwangwazo, Labaran Abdul Madari, Garba Yau Gwarmai and Muhammad Bello Butu Butu had filed a suit before the state high court challenging the proceedings that led to their suspension from legislative duties.
The suspended lawmakers, in an originating summons, have asked the state high court to determine whether the actions that led to their suspension were in compliance with the provisions of the rules of the state House of Assembly laws.
The plaintiffs also asked the court to declare their suspension from the state Assembly as null and void. They further prayed the court to issue a perpetual injunction restraining the Speaker and the state Assembly from hindering them to perform their legislative duties, while also requesting the court to order the state Assembly to pay the plaintiffs their outstanding allowances and other entitlements.
The matter was fixed for hearing on June 11th before Kano State High Court 1, which is been presided over by the state Chief Judge, Justice Nura Umar Sagir.
