Alleged Fake Journalist, Arraigned, Granted Bail

The Nigeria Police on Wednesday arraigned one Valentine Agba before a Magistrate’s Court on one count charge of impersonation.

The prosecution told the court that Agba was arrested at the vegetable section of Kofar Wambai Market, adding that the defendant claimed to be a reporter attached to Pyramid fm, a Kano-based radio station.

The defendant allegedly obtained some monies from the chairman of the market, one Abdulkareem Mustapha, promising that the interview granted to him would be aired on Pyramid fm, a promise which he did not fulfill, resulting to his arrest by the police, the court heard.

The defendant denied all the slammed against him before the court, saying all that was contained on the charge sheet was not true. According to him, he only paraded himself as a staff of African News, adding that he had never paraded himself as a journalists working with a Kano-based fm station.

The presiding magistrate, Aminu Gabari ordered that the defendant be admitted into bail on the condition that he should produce a staff of Africa News as surety. The case is adjourned to May 7th for further mention.
