A Kano-based sports watchdog group, Sports Without Borders (SWB) has urged Kano state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to hasten in accomplishing his pledge to construct new major sports facilities in some parts of the state.
According to a statement issued by the group, the state is in dire need of more facilities to accommodate millions of active youths in the state.
SWB noted that Ganduje has shown interest in sports developments by creating Kano State Sports Commission (KSSC), adding that Ganduje will go down in history for establishing the state ministry of sports.
The statement signed by the secretary of the group, Moses Owoyele “Ganduje has gone ahead to now appoint a special adviser to his government on sports. I also have it on notice that a senior special assistant on sports has been appointed by the governor. He has to crown all these achievements by constructing more sports facilities to decongest the existing sports facilities. We are calling on his government to decongest sports facilities in the state by constructing new ones and also upgrade and to renovate those in use. All the major sports facilities are centered in the metropolitan, the state government should decentralize by building facilities in other senatorial zones to relief the burden on the existing ones and by so doing take sports development to the interior parts of the state.
