The Nigeria Police, Kano command, on Tuesday arrested some persons over their alleged involvement in rustling of domestic animals within the state metropolis.

The suspected persons aged between 19 and 25 were alleged to have serially engaged in rustling and wrecking havoc on domestic animals.

Judicial Sketch learnt that the suspects rustled goats and sheep and transported them to an empty plot of land located at Gyadi Gyadi Quarters, where the animals were either sold or used for barbecue.

The spokesman of the state police command, DSP Haruna Abdullahi Kiyawa, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects, said the rustling gang was notorious for committing the crime in and around Kano metropolis.

Kiyawa said the police, after been tipped off about the activities of the rustling gang, were deployed to investigate the activities of the criminal gang, adding that discreet investigations led to the smashing of the gang.

He said police operatives on Tuesday smoked out the criminal elements from their hideout located at Gyadi Gyadi Quarters, explaining that exhibits comprising living and slaughtered sheep and goats were recovered from the possession of the suspected persons.

Kiyawa disclosed that the commissioner of police in the state, CP Habu Sani has directed that discreet investigations be conducted to unravel and apprehend all those involved in the activities of the criminal syndicate which specializes in rustling domestic animals in the state.
